This project, located in Barahona, Dominican Republic, is a result of a collaboration with long-standing clients who have previously worked with me on various projects. Their decision to engage my services as an architect was based on my demonstrated creative skills. The primary objective of this project was to develop a captivating glamping site, combining the essence of camping with a touch of glamour.
The chosen site for this project is a picturesque, sloped green land offering a stunning view of the town of Barahona. The vision behind the project was to create an eco-village where individuals and families can escape the bustling routines of everyday life and spend quality time with their loved ones. Glamping, a portmanteau of “camping” and “glamour,” perfectly captures the concept of this endeavor.
The complete project encompasses the construction of 40 units, consisting of 1, 2, and 3-bedroom accommodations, along with a club house. However, phase one of the project, which serves as a prototype, features only four units. These units are designed with a combination of wood, concrete bases, and straw coverings, imparting a rustic yet charming aesthetic to the exteriors. The interior spaces are thoughtfully designed to be simple, without the inclusion of a full kitchen. Instead, each unit features a convenient countertop area. The main focus of the interior design is to provide an unobstructed view of the breathtaking surroundings, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the astonishing natural beauty.
Overall, this project showcases my ability to envision and execute creative architectural solutions, blending nature, comfort, and elegance. It exemplifies the potential of glamping as a concept and offers a serene retreat for visitors seeking a unique and glamorous camping experience.
The interior of the Glamping unit embraces a harmonious blend of natural elements and modern comfort. The polished concrete floor exudes a sleek and contemporary vibe while serving as a durable foundation. Large windows adorn the space, welcoming abundant natural light and framing the breathtaking panoramic view. The split-level design elevates the bed area, allowing guests to maximize their enjoyment of the picturesque scenery. Adjacent to the bed, a small but elegant walking closet provides ample storage space, while a shower and a roofless bathtub offer a luxurious escape into nature, allowing guests to indulge in a truly immersive and rejuvenating experience.
The exterior of the Glamping unit showcases a seamless integration with its natural surroundings. A beautifully crafted wooden decking surrounds the unit, providing a serene and inviting space for guests to immerse themselves in the lush greenery. Accessible design is prioritized with the inclusion of a ramp, ensuring that everyone, including individuals with disabilities, can easily reach the unit. As the sun begins to set, the glass panels of the unit’s facade reflect a warm, golden hue, creating a truly spectacular sight and enhancing the overall ambiance of the glamping experience.
The bath and tub of the Glamping unit offer a truly unique and immersive experience. Designed to connect with nature, the bath and tub area is open to the sky, allowing guests to feel the gentle touch of sunrays on their skin while immersed in the water. The space has a natural aesthetic, incorporating elements of biophilic design with lush green plants surrounding the area. This intentional blending of nature and bathing creates a soothing and rejuvenating atmosphere, allowing guests to unwind and connect with the natural world around them.
